Dr. Phil Icard is a licensed psychologist who is board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology and Pediatric Clinical Neuropsychology. As a child and adolescent neuropsychologist, Dr. Icard provides comprehensive assessment and consultation for childhood conditions with neurological involvement. Dr. Icard has experience working with both congenital and acquired disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disability, learning disorders, childhood medical conditions, and traumatic brain injury. He is particularly interested in the areas of recovery after TBI, chronic illness, and complex learning disorders.
Dr. Icard received his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC, he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology and developmental disabilities at the Clinical Center for the Study of Development and Learning. As both a clinician and researcher, Dr. Icard has written peer-reviewed journal articles and a book chapter focusing on pediatric chronic illness. He has participated in research examining the neurological impact of pediatric chronic kidney disease and substance-use on brain development. Darris Ferguson is a Licensed Psychological Associate who graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC and obtained his Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Dr. Taeh Ward is a licensed psychologist who is board eligible in Clinical Neuropsychology. As an adult neuropsychologist, Dr. Ward specializes in providing comprehensive assessment, consultation, and treatment to geriatric and younger adults (age 18 years and older) with neurological, other medical, and psychological conditions. Dr. Ward has experience with various types of dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease; acquired brain injury through stroke, traumatic brain injury, and brain tumor; multiple sclerosis and movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease; hydrocephalus; epilepsy; medical disorders such as hepatic, renal, and cardiopulmonary illness; psychological disorders such as depression and posttraumatic stress disorder; and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder; among others. As a scientist practitioner, Dr. Ward has conducted research and written peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters regarding multiple sclerosis, capacity to provide informed consent, stress and memory, neurobehavioral impact of substance use and medical disorders, and the cognitive impact of psychological disorders. Dr. Ward previously worked in dementia research at Duke University Medical Center.
